FEBRUARY 2007 - Dakota, A Quarter Horse, A Light unto Herself

Dakota, A Quarter Horse
This story is submitted by one of our students, Kim King, about her horse Dakota, a beautiful spirited animal that touches our hearts in a deep way!!! We honor both her and Kim on their journey together!!!

Through Karma Yoga, the Science of Service, I was graced to become an owner of this beautiful creature. She is powerful, yet graceful but her soul is where I found my connection. Like my yoga practice my relationship with Dakota symbolizes and teaches freedom from restraints.

Horses and yoga bring new journeys and teach us how to “ride” into new directions and discover our own freedom and power. Horses see though human egos and literally know human feelings through our scents. Yoga teaches us to go beyond our egos and learn to feel our bodies in order to move to deeper levels of consciousness. Horses are naturally and automatically in the moment.

A relationship with a horse is unique just as our relationship with our mats. Once any comparison begins, individual truth can be lost. My horse and my yoga mat both bring quiet and dignified relationships which continue to blossom differently daily. This animal once greatly neglected and misunderstood through a daily discipline of love and compassion, has grown into a warm social trusted pet. She now practices yoga daily…neck stretches, forward bends, even downface dog! Below is a picture of Nicole, Kim's daughter, one of our youngest yogini's at Three Rivers Yoga riding Dakota. :)

Dakota, A Quarter Horse
Thank you Kim for a very heartfelt message. Namaste!!
